History of Tadhg Mac Carthaigh Ladies

HISTORY OF TADHG MACCARIGH LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB

The Tadhg MacCarthaigh Ladies Football Club was founded in January 2008. Sheila Collins, Dreenaverihy initially approached Anne Marie & Kate Crowley, Bauravilla with the idea. It was quickly realised that there would be plenty of interest in parish to start a ladies football club.

A meeting was then held in The Travellers Rest, Caheragh and it was there where the first committee was formed. The following committee were elected, Chairperson - Sheila Collins, Secretary - Kate Crowley, Vice Secretary - Norma Murray, Treasurer/Registrar - Anne Marie Crowley and PRO - Linda Scully.

The ladies were delighted with the support and encouragement they received from the Tadhg MacCarthaigh GAA Club, the parish, the County board and the West Cork board. The club initially registered a junior ladies team in 2008, with approximately 37 members. The club was delighted to receive their first set of club jerseys, which were kindly sponsored by Mr Frank Hurley, Carbery Oils Ltd, Coolnaclehy, Skibbereen.

The first trainer of the ladies club was Mr Sean O'Flaherty, Bauravilla, who kindly came on board to train the junior ladies team. It was with Sean's initial belief and encouragement in the ladies, that the club has now gone from strength to strength.

With an eye to the future the ladies established an U.14 girl's team in 2010 under the initial leadership of Eileen McCarthy, Barna.

The Tadhg MacCarthaigh Ladies have enjoyed a strong local backing while also accumulating an impressive list of silverware throughout their relatively short existence.
